EHR, Outpatient

The Outpatient EHR module manages the complete outpatient encounter. It connects every step of the patient visit, registration, triage, clinical consultation, laboratory, and pharmacy, into a single continuous record. Every staff member involved in the visit works from the same patient record in real time.

The outpatient workflow

Results from the lab flow back into the doctor's consultation screen automatically. The doctor does not need to leave the consultation to check whether results are ready.

Triage

The triage screen is where a nurse or health worker captures a patient's vital signs at the start of a visit. It records:

  • Blood pressure (systolic and diastolic)
  • Temperature
  • Pulse rate
  • Oxygen saturation (SpO₂)
  • Weight and height (BMI calculated automatically)
  • Presenting complaint

Once vitals are captured, the patient moves to the consultation waiting list. The doctor can see the triage findings before calling the patient in.

Consultation

The consultation screen is where the doctor records the clinical encounter. It captures:

  • History of presenting complaint
  • Physical examination findings
  • Diagnosis (with ICD coding support)
  • Laboratory investigations ordered
  • Referrals
  • Prescription

Every consultation is time-stamped and attributed to the doctor who recorded it. Previous consultations are visible in the patient's history so the doctor has full context without needing paper files.

Laboratory

The lab module connects directly to the consultation. When a doctor orders an investigation, it appears immediately in the lab queue. The workflow is:

  1. Lab scientist sees the order and collects the sample
  2. Sample is processed and result entered into the system
  3. Result appears in the doctor's consultation screen
  4. Doctor can review and act on the result within the same visit

Results are stored permanently in the patient's record. Every future consultation can reference the complete lab history.

Pharmacy

The pharmacy module receives prescriptions directly from the consultation. Pharmacists see all pending prescriptions in their queue, confirm the drugs, and record dispensing. The dispensing record, quantity, batch number, dispensing date, is stored against the patient's visit.

Patient dashboard

Clinical staff can view a patient's complete history across all their visits, every triage record, every consultation, every lab result, every drug dispensed, in a single timeline view. This is particularly useful for patients with chronic conditions who attend the facility regularly.
